Search and Rescue

Within hours of your B52 crash I was assigned to a C130 to search for you and your crew. Since that day in 1967 I searched but could not find you by name until today!! It's been 57 years. First of all I'm sorry that this happened. I believe I could have been on that crew with you as I was assigned to 52s out of Guam the exact time you were there as well. We may have own together and now your assignment is with the Lord
I hope I get to meet you sir.

POW/MIA BRACELET DISPLAY - PALM SPRINGS AIR MUSEUM

I am the Curator of the POW/MIA Bracelet Display in the Vietnam Hangar of the Palm Springs Air Museum in Palm Springs, California where we now have over two thousand bracelets honoring POWs, MIAs and KIAs and would be honored to include your bracelet in our Display should you have one. If you no longer have your bracelet or wish to keep yours or are an immediate family member (spouse, fiancé, sibling, child, grandchild, cousin, niece, nephew, or close friend) I can order one for the Display in your name with funds donated by our Museum visitors.

Childhood memory of you

I was a young girl of 12 living on Andersen AFB on Guam when you were killed. I remember it vividly. It brought the war home to me. God rest your soul.

William J. Crumm MajGen

I served with you on Guam in 1966-67. You were one of those Officers whom I looked up too. Never too busy to help Security Police getting us coffee and cigarettes and sandwiches on the night shift. Guarded your residence on Guam and enjoyed your company when you came through my gate while I was on duty. I still wear your POW/MIA bracelet today. Never forgotten by your fellow Airmen.

You are rembered.

William, I'm honored to read your name on 8 November 2022 at the Vietnam Veterans wall and the names of those of Paul, Charles, and David who died with you when your B52 crashed at sea on July 7, 1967. I've read your remembrances and learned you shared the same risks as the men who served with you and piloted bombing runs over Vietnam. You were loved and respected by those who served with you. Semper Fidelis, Dan
