Poem for Vietnam Veterans
If you are able, save a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go
Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always, take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own
And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heros you left behind
Major Michael Davis O'Donnell

Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
Mary Frye – 1932

Brother
Even though I was a very young boy when you served our country and perished, your life still lives through your family. The tree that was planted in 1971 is still growing strong and tall as ever.

A TREE GROWS FOR YOU
Doug was my nephew and grew up next door to his Grandparents, my Mom and Dad. Doug grew up in West Boone, enjoying life with all of his West Boone buddys. Dougs Dad William(Rocky)Crooks was a veteran of the Korean War. His Grandad was a Veteran of World II. Doug married Connie and they had two children, Tony and Danille it's a shame that he could not see them groing up. In the yard of Garfield School is a pine tree planted as a Memorial to Doug. I am proud and happy to say that after nearly 28 years the tree is still growing straight toward Heaven for Doug to see. Time seems to help heal all wounds. We love and miss you very much Doug, GOD BLESS YOU! Uncle Don.
