Remembering a childhood friend
We played all the games kids played back then. We even built the ultimate go-kart for the ages, despite the fact that Pat, ever the playful clown, fiddled with the steering controls (I thought I would die, you just laughed). We grew older and Nam reared its ugly head, so we went off to do what was asked. I remember that party next door to your house before you left, Pat's party, where you and I were outside in your yard with that cute girl Jackie. It looked bad for a moment, and then we looked at each other and laughed so hard. We all already knew where we were going. First you, then Pat L, and then I and Patrick F, and more, all got our “Greetings”. I was still in basic when you died, didn't know until I came home that May. You should have grown old with us. Sometimes your name comes up and everyone gets really quiet, just before someone says, “But remember that day when....” I miss you old friend, just as I miss the others who never returned. The guys in Lansdowne still know your name.

Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice.
Dear Mark, Classmate of 1968, LAHS: You represented your Borough, County, State, & Country, making the greatest sacrifice a soldier could. We will always be in debt to you & your family. I remember you as a good student, a fine athlete, & a quality person. May you continue to RIHP. Sir Dean A. Morrow-LAHS Class of 1968

Mark, I remember sitting in class and hearing the beep come over the PA system announcing you had been killed in Vietnam. Eternal rest grant unto Mark, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon this very nice guy.

Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
As long as you are remembered you will never die...
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
As long as you are remembered you will never die...
