Remembering Mr. Crockett

I was sitting in the back of the in front of the flight shack at Camp Evans. The ship, flown by Mr. Crockett was running up for takeoff. There were six of us onboard. A civilian tech ran out of the flight shack and asked each of us passengers what our business was in Ankhe was. He had to take important documents to Ankhe. As I was stationed at LZ Sharon and only on a shopping trip for supplies for the guys back at the LZ I was bumped off the flight. The ship took off to the refueling dump. I was waiting for a flight back to the LZ when Crockett and all six on board went down. The main transmission locked at about 1200 feet.

He wanted to fly.

Jim Crockett was enlisted air force and transferred to the army so that he could learn to fly helicopters. He was a friend of my Dad's who took me flying in a single engine plane as a yound teenager before he deployed to Viet Nam. 50 uears later, I still remember his kindness!
