Final Mission of CAPT Warren L. Anderson
On April 26, 1966, an RF-4C Phantom II (tail number 64-1045) from the 16th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron carrying a crew of two took off on a night photographic reconnaissance mission over North Vietnam. The crew was comprised of aircraft commander CAPT Warren L. Anderson and pilot 1LT James H. Tucker. As expected, radar contact with the Phantom was lost at 1:05 AM local time as it descended towards its target, approximately 15 miles north of Dong Hoi; however, contact could not be reestablished, and the aircraft failed to return from the mission. A ramp check was made with negative results and search teams were launched. No sign of the Phantom or a crash site could be located. Neither crew member was seen or heard from again. Anderson was promoted to Colonel and Tucker was promoted to Major during the time they were missing. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
