I was stationed at Ft Meade Md and was assigned to escort Carl from Dover AFB to Still Pond Md. for his funeral.
Whenever I visit The Wall, I always lookup Carl, along with the comrades who I served with.

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrance from Betty Jean Henry is moving. As long as you are remembered you will always be with us....

THIS MAN IS AN AMERICAN HERO WHO I WILL NEVER FORGET. HE SERVED AND GAVE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE FOR THIS GREAT COUNTRY. NO GREASTER A GIFT A MAN CAN GIVE THAN TO LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR A FRIEND.

Carl was my cub scout den leader. A few years ago I visited the Wall for the first time. Looked Carl up in the directory and froze. The date I visited, August 5th, happened to be Carl's birthday. Someone was meant to remember him that day.

Dear Sgt Carl Crew,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
