A remembrance by a fellow-Forward Air Controller (Kontum, 1966-67)
It was a dark day when Art went down in the Dak Na valley, north of Kontum, while putting in an airstrike amid ground fire. During the past few years, I have reconstructed that fatal mission and its aftermath from recollections and a journal entry by fellow-AF FACs and Army chopper pilots directly involved. I'd appreciate any contact by, or help in finding, any of Art's family members.
"Arthur, oh, Arthur, oh where have you gone?
You died upon that hillside, but your spirit lingers on."
(Chorus of "A Death in the Dak Na Valley," Nov 1999)

In Memory of Art
Art was a good friend and neighbor, and we shared the same car pool in our pilot training days. Like his life, our friendship was much too short.
It seems appropriate to have found this internet site on Memorial Day 1999 that honors lost friends such as Art.
