Remembering An American Hero
Dear SSGT James Cooney, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

St.Peter's High School Old Pal Remembers 'The Coon"
Jim Cooney was the only one who signed my high school year book. He wrote, “Have fun working while the brew is flowing.” “The Coon” or “Cooney” which is all we ever called him was a good guy. He liked life and to laugh and have a good time. When he got drafted we had one hellava keg party at the Masonic Hall on Victory Blvd before he left. We caddied together at Richmond County Country Club and in the summer drank cases of Ringold chug-a-mugs. In senior year we were on the intermural football team and won the class trophy. I think of the Coon once in a while and wish he were still among us. He is remembered. - John Clark (aka. “JC”) - A classmate of Jim Cooney at St. Peters High School for Boys, Staten Island, N.Y. - Class of 1965
