do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
As long as you are remembered you will never truly die....
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

Unforgettable Marine
He died this day in 1967, advancing west on Route 9 to secure the roadway for an artillery convoy en route to Khe Sanh when his point spotted and triggered an ambush by a platoon of NVA. Then his platoon was mortared, indicating an NVA battalion. John was seriously wounded in the arms and legs and died after being medivaced. The platoon was extracted with heavy casualties. Route remained cut until the siege of Khe Sanh was broken.
