We Remember
My Unle, My Hero
Growing up as a child In Jacksonville, Fl. I would spend alot of weekends at my grandparents house. I remember the first time I saw the picture of a soldier wearing a helmet and asked my grandmother, 'Who is that Army man Grandma? I learned that he was my uncle Leroy and that he had died in the Vietnam War . I can still remember how sad that made me. Over the years while visiting I would often look at my uncle's photo and would wonder what he was like. I would often ask my father about his time growing up with Uncle Leroy and would enjoy hearing about how tough and courageous he was and how everyone he came in contact with loved him. I am 46 now and was only 2 years old on that sad day. I have a copy of that photo and it hangs in my house in honor of him. Uncle Leroy, My children know of you and your sacrifice for our freedom and i wish i could have had the honor of knowing you, 'My Uncle, My Hero.
To Put A Face With A Name
Hey Y'all, From Yuns Guys
I miss ya man. I was stunned when I heard you were gone. Word got to me via the in-country net we had. You were so patient & positive. It's taken me over 30 years to remember your name. That's another story. Your face was & will always be in my minds eye.
"Hey Leroy, I hear ya mama callin, she's mad man."
