Biography

Mr. Glenn Hockaday, the son of Mrs. Mattie Hockaday Brown and the late Mr. Glenwood Hockaday, was born July 30, 1949. He joined the Carter's Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and was very active in both the Junior and Senior Choirs. During his elementary and high school years, Glenn was an avid baseball player and amateur fisherman. He was a star player on the William R. Davie's Blue Devils team for two years. Glenn's talents as a fisherman were not quite as strong; however, his tales of the size and weight of his catfish would make any seasoned fisherman envious. Glenn worked for the U.S. Department of Bureau and Engraving for nearly 1 1/2 years in Washington, DC, upon graduation from high school in 1967. There he was a Clerk Typist who keyed in data entry for the processing of Government checks. Glen joined the U.S. Army in 1969. Upon completion of Basic Training at Fort Bragg, NC, Glen was processed out to an Overseas Assignment in Vietnam. He completed the 10-weeks Medical Corpsman Training in 1970. During his tour of duty Glen received the following awards: The Bronze Star Medal, The Combat Medical Badge, The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal and The Vietnam Campaign Medal. Glen was discharged 1n August 1971 and moved to Baltimore, Maryland. There he married Vivian Elaine Powell. e former high school acquaintance. Glen was in and out of Veterans Administration Hospitals for nearly 5 years. God's angel called him home at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Durham, North Carolina. on September 4, 1976. Glen's homegoing has left a void in the lives of his wife, Mrs. Vivian Hockaday. of Baltimore, Md.; his daughter, Mrs. Christal Dawn Riley of Waldorf, MD.; his mother, Mrs. Mattie Hockaday Brown, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one brother, Earl Stanley Hockaday of Arlington, VA; 3 sisters, Mrs. Patricia Diane Blount. of Dumfries, VA: Mrs. Sheila Kaye Hill, of Woodbridge, VA: and Mrs. Vickie Shirnell Armstrong of Quantico, VA; two step-brothers and one step-sister. all of Wilmington, Delaware; Six sisters-in-law, four aunts, tour uncles, a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
