Michael Paul Murphy
Michael Paul Murphy was born February 4,1951 in Columbus, NE to Paul and Helen Murphy. He was the oldest of 6 siblings. He graduated from Watertown High school in Watertown, SD in 1969. Michael enlisted into the US Navy in 1971. MIchael served in Vietnam on board the USS Enterprise.
After serving his country in Vietnam, Mike went on to make a professional career in the US Navy supporting nuclear powered vessels such as destroyers and aircraft carriers. He was able to travel throughout the world and he and his family lived in many places across the United States. Michael served on a variety of Naval ships including the USS Yellowstone and the USS Texas. He was able to spend time stateside as a recruiter in South Dakota before moving his family to Hampton, VA where he served the final years of his naval career.
Michael retired from the Navy as a Chief Warrant Officer 2nd class in 1996 serving on the USS Eisenhower.
He continued his career in Hampton, VA as an engineer and civilian consultant for various power companies throughout the United States.
In his personal time Mike enjoyed spending time with his family camping in his RV, fishing, and hosting pool parties. As his family grew he became grandfather to two grandsons and one granddaughter.
