Biography

Phillip Leroy Henke was born on March 12, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa. He went to school in Sioux City, Iowa, and West Field Iowa. Phillip was drafted and was one of the veterans of the war where he contacted Agent Orange. He married the love of his life, Charlotte Sargent, on December 6. Phillip worked for Wilson Trailor in Sioux City, Iowa and Nebraska Transport Co in Omaha but most of all he was a bus driver for the Underwood School district for 20 years. The kids absolutely loved him and he was always laughing and giving them and their parents a hard time. Everyone he met loved him. He was a die-hard NASCAR fan. #6 Mark Martin was his guy. He held season tickets to the NASCAR Kansas City race track and he could be heard saying, "Let's go racing, boogity, boogity, boogity!" He has always been an integral part of his children's lives and most importantly, his grandchildren's. They were his every and he was our everything. He always tried to spend as much time as he could with them doing various things. He loved to shoot guns, race lawnmowers up and down the street, go eat, and many more things. He truly loved unconditionally. After Charlotte passed away in 2009, he had the chance to reconnect with one of his high school girlfriends. He and Linda spent the next 12 years happy and laughing. He was an active gardener and loved to make homemade pepper salsa that he'd give away to all his neighbors. They were like a second family on the street. He truly was the most caring, loving, giving person you would ever meet. There wasn't a single person he wouldn't give the shirt off his back to. He truly was so loved by many and will always be missed.
