William Edward Wisniewski
William Edward Wisniewski was born on October 1st, 1949 in Dunkirk, New York. He graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School in 1967. Bill joined the Marine Corps in 1967 and served one tour in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive as an Amphibious Tank Driver. On June 19th, 1971 he married Mary Ann Zientowski and they went on to have 2 children, Elliott and Sarah. Bill graduated from Bryant & Stratton College in 1972 with an Associates Degree in Business. He was the General Manager of Rupert & Gruber Roofing & Sheetmetal for over 20 years. He was very active in the Boy Scouts with Troop 400 in Hamburg, New York, serving as Scoutmaster for 5 years. The Troop still holds an annual ride for cancer awareness with the Ride for Roswell in his name, Scouter Bill. He was loved by everyone he met and known as a very funny and caring person. Although not musical himself, he had a love of music and installed that love in his son who is an accomplished pianist & who studied cello in college. His zest for knowledge never waned over the course of his life. He wanted his children to have that same zest so he would always answer a question with the same answer, "look it up." An avid reader, he amassed a collection of over 2,000 books. Bill passed away on September 1st, 1998, one month to the day shy of his 49th birthday, of stomach cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam. Bill is remembered to this day as a great man who cared about everyone & everything in his life. He is still sorely missed by his family, friends and acquaintances.
