Biography

Richard Frank Rivera was born February 23, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, to Louis and Lucille and was 3rd of 12 children. He served our nation in the US Army as a combat infantryman in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971 and was a decorated hero. Father of Rick, Katie, Celina, and preceded in death by daughter Angie, Rick is the beloved husband of Karen and stepfather of Sarah and Ivan. His grandchildren are Douglas, Ashlea, Molly, Henry, Riley and Adam. Rick's working career began at his family's auto repair business and he excelled as an auto mechanic for more than 50 years, the latter as a long-time employee with the Phil Long Ford family of Denver. Rick loved camping, riding ATV's with family and friends, and driving his numerous Mustangs and trucks. His true joy was riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, involving many rides for charity. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, and was an excellent dancer/instructor. Rick readily lent a hand to others for repairs and DIY improvement projects. Despite life's challenges, he humbly made personal sacrifices and contributions to benefit others. Rick was patient, kind, and loving. He had a quick wit, clever sense of humor and generous heart. He was greatly loved by all that knew him. Rick was service-connected disabled, resulting from Vietnam. He passed on October 21, 2016, after courageously battling cancer and continues to be greatly missed by family and friends.

Dad

Hey dad, it's me. Celina... you gave me that name. You gave me a lot. You taught me a lot. You pushed me to live through anything and everything. We experienced so much life together. Things no one will ever truly understand. I'll always see your eyes in mine and N matter how hard life gets I will never give up because you showed me why life was worth living. Our bond was far beyond what anyone will ever know. I will always always look to you for courage. I'm so thankful I had you to teach me how to be a good person. I miss you dad. Now more than ever but I know you're with me. You've pushed me through everything these last five years and I'm so grateful for ever day I had with you.
Love you dad.
Thank you

Thank you & miss you

Uncle Rick: I never thanked you for your service, I think because you didn’t really talk about your experience serving. I should have regardless. Thank you & I miss you! You are such a bright light in my memories.
