Biography

Bob was born November 9, 1949 in Columbus, Indiana and was the son of Jasper “Jack” and Edna (Jennings) Barr. He married Deborah Jo Corbin on November 12, 1970 at Langley AFB. Bob and Deb have two daughters (Jennifer & Radie), two sons-in-law (Marcus & Evan) and one granddaughter (Madelyn). Bob was a 1967 graduate of Columbus High School in Columbus, Indiana and 1996 graduate of Purdue University. Bob had been a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Columbus, Indiana, the American Legion Post 24, UAW Local 23, and the Local 23 GM Color Guard. Bob worked at PECO in Columbus, Indiana and then worked for 30 years at GM Truck and Bus in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bob was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the Air Force. He was stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia and Da Nang in Vietnam where he was an Air Cargo Specialist. Bob was very private about his time in Vietnam. However, the memories of his time in Vietnam, as well as the treatment he and others received when returning home from duty were carried throughout his lifetime. The last decade of his life he spent dealing with Multiple Myeloma, which was thought to be caused by exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam. While Bob did not speak often of his own military experience, he was very supportive of others serving our country. He enjoyed staying in touch with current soldiers and fellow veterans, either through snail mail or current technology. He also enjoyed attending various patriotic services and activities. Even though our Dad did not share of great deal about his time in Vietnam, we are extremely proud of the sacrifice he made so that we and others can live in a land of freedom.
