Biography

Charles Edward Clatterbuck was born, March 26, 1944, in Orange, VA. He graduated from High School in 1965. Charles joined the Marines in 1966 and unselfishly served his country in Khe Sahn, Vietnam from 1967-1968. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him, as friends and family will attest. On May 6, 1972 he married Beverly Dobyns and they went on to have 2 children, Charles E Clatterbuck II and Christy Clatterbuck Rogers and five grandchildren, Riley Clatterbuck, Reese Rogers, Charles E. Clatterbuck Ill, Waylon Rogers, and Aubrey Rogers. After leaving the Marines, Charles worked within the Virginia Department of Transportation and finally retired after 42 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Charles went to work for the Town of Gordonsville. His success in business can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural ability. He took pride in the fact the work was always done with professionalism. He loved to hunt, fish, play sports, and coach. He was a star on the football field, baseball field, and wrestling mat for the Orange County 'Fighting Hornets' High School teams. Charles was a life-long coach and mentor to many within the community; whether it was picking kids up to get them to the park for practices or games, coaching, or just field maintenance. He was a dedicated football, baseball, and softball coach within Orange County for multiple leagues and gave countless hours of his time. He also enjoyed watching all of his grandkids excel in sports and school. He departed this life on January 14, 2018 due to complications arising from Esophageal and Pancreatic Cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam. Charles lived life to the fullest until the end and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
