IN MEMORY HONOR ROLL

VIETNAM 1966 - 1967 Herman Downs attended Akron Garfield High, he was the 3rd oldest of a family of five. After graduating from High School he volunteered for the Draft, entering the US Marine Corps. In Vietnam he served his country as an antitank assault man. CPL. Downs was never the same after he returned from the Vietnam War, my mother would say of Herman who was her son “I don’t know who that is.” Referring to Herman. The chemical poison of Agent Orange destroyed Herman. His death was horrible at the age of 42 he lost his battle with Agent Orange Cancer. He suffered for over a year. He had to have his tongue removed. Six months later the cancer returned and consumed his whole face. The Downs family pray every day that the chemicals sprayed in Vietnam won’t be passed on to the next generation of the Downs family.
