Anthony George Benner
Anthony “Tony” Benner was born on November 28, 1945 to George and Edna Benner on the family farm outside of Fowler Indiana. He was the sixth of 14 children. He attended school in Fowler and graduated from Freeland Park High School in 1963. He later enlisted in the US Air Force in 1964 and proudly served his county until 1975, including one tour in Viet Nam and one in Germany. He was also stationed in San Angelo and San Antonio Texas. After a whirlwind courtship, he married the love of his life, Sandra McCauley, on May 31, 1969 in San Angelo Texas. After leaving the Air Force in 1975, his family moved to Austin Texas where he lived and worked until his death. While helping raise five daughters and working, he attended college at Park University from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1993. His family with his loving wife, Sandy includes five daughters: Beth Bryars and husband Jeff; Shawn Brents and husband Charlie; Nannette Anderson and husband Hardale Anderson; Robin Sheard and husband Jeremy; and Jocelyn. He has 11 grandchildren; Eddie and wife Faith, Anthony and Ian Brents; Andrew and Avery Bryars; Xavier, Micah and Ava Anderson; and Hayden, Tristen and Masen Sheard. His great granddaughter Ella Brents, was born in 2016.
