Biography

Paul Harold Bogar was born January 1, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the only son of Carl C. and Viola Hunt Bogar. He attended the Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Redford High School in 1968. During his high school years he sang in the school choir, singing bass. Paul also played the accordion, drums, and guitar. Paul enjoyed playing baseball, swimming, and ice skating. He was drafted into the army in September of 1968 and reported to F01i Knox, Kentucky for basic training. After finishing his basic training he was sent to Fort Polk, Louisiana for further training then back to Fort Knox. In March 1969, he was sent to Vietnam as part of the 1st Calvary Division. He served in Vietnam until April 1970. During his tour of duty there, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Upon returning home, he began working for the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan. On August 25, 1972, Paul married Mary Polley. They were blessed with one son, Paul Joseph Bogar who was born in July 1974. Paul was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in January 1977 and died the following April. He left behind his wife, son, mother, father, sister, niece, and both grandmothers. Many friends were also left. Paul never lived to see his son grow into a man, get married. He never got to see his granddaughter and grandson.
