Handwritten note dedicated to U.S. Army Sergeant (SGT) Charles Henry Crane. The note is from the, "Molokai Family", references SGT Crane's preference for wearing coconut leaf hats, and was originally discovered with a coconut leaf hat (VIVE (1411)). The artifact was left at The Wall by Waltah Earl on July 17, 1985.

ITEM DESCRIPTION

HANDWRITTEN NOTE DEDICATED TO U.S. ARMY SERGEANT (SGT) CHARLES HENRY CRANE. THE OBJECT CONSISTS OF A HANDWRITTEN NOTE IN BLACK INK AND CURSIVE SCRIPT/ARABIC NUMERALS UPON A SMALL, RECTANGULARLY SHAPED SHEET OF WHITE, LINED, SPIRAL NOTEBOOK PAPER. THE NOTE IS ADDRESSED, "ALOHA, CHARLES H. CRANE," IS FROM, "[the] MOLOKAI FAMILY / WALTAH EARL," IS DATED, "7/17/85", AND REFERS TO SGT CRANE'S PREFERENCE FOR WEARING COCONUT LEAF HATS. THE OBJECT WAS ORIGINALLY LEFT AT THE VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL (VVM) WALL WITH, AND IS ASSOCIATED WITH, A COCONUT LEAF HAT (VIVE 1411).
