ITEM SUMMARY

Color photographic print taken 'in-country' in Vietnam. A handwritten inscription at the reverse surface of the photo identifies the image as an aerial view of Phu Loi taken in November 1969 en route to graves registration duties in Saigon. The artifact was left at The Wall as part of a larger artifact assemblage (VIVE (18876, 9676, 9677, 9679, & 9680)) by U.S. Army Specialist 4 (SP4) Thomas E. Rock on March 6, 1994.

ITEM DESCRIPTION

COLOR PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT. THE OBJECT CONSISTS OF A SMALL, FULL COLOR PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT (PORTRAIT ORIENTATION) UPON A SQUARE SHAPED SHEET OF WHITE PHOTO PAPER. THE PHOTOGRAPH WAS APPARENTLY TAKEN 'IN-COUNTRY' IN VIETNAM [?] AND THE IMAGE AT THE OBVERSE OBJECT SURFACE FEATURES AN AERIAL VIEW OF A LOW LANDSCAPE DOTTED WITH FIELDS, TREES, AND NUMEROUS LONG, WHITE STRUCTURES. THE UNDER-SURFACE OF A DOOR, WING, OR OTHER AIRPLANE COMPONENT IS VISIBLE ALONG THE UPPER EDGE OF THE IMAGE. A HANDWRITTEN INSCRIPTION IN BLACK AND BLUE INK AND BLOCK SCRIPT/ARABIC NUMERALS AT THE REVERSE OBJECT SURFACE IDENTIFIES THE LOCATION AND DATE OF THE IMAGE, "PHU LOI / NOV. 19 69", AND PROVIDES A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICH THE IMAGE WAS CAPTURED. ACCORDING TO MRCE CATALOG NOTES, THE IMAGE BARCODE # ORIGINALLY ASSOCIATED WITH ARTIFACT WAS RECORDED AS, "1415". THE OBJECT WAS ORIGINALLY DISCOVERED INSIDE VIVE (9676), AND IS ASSOCIATED WITH VIVE (9676, 9677, 9679, 9680, & 18876).
