Christian crucifix dedicated to U.S. Army Specialist 4 (SP4) Larry Allen Doring. Handwritten inscriptions upon the crucifix provide SP4 Doring's name as well as his birth date, "3/28/46" and casualty date, "7/11/67". The artifact was left at The Wall by an anonymous donor between July - September 1986.

ITEM DESCRIPTION

CHRISTIAN CRUCIFIX DEDICATED TO U.S. ARMY SPECIALIST 4 (SP4) LARRY ALLEN DORING. THE OBJECT CONSISTS OF A CRUCIFORM SHAPED ARTIFACT COMPRISED OF TWO (2) SEPARATE LENGTHS OF STAINED (DARK BROWN)/VARNISHED WOOD WHICH ARE AFFIXED TO ONE ANOTHER VIA SOME FORM OF CHEMICAL ADHESIVE AND WHICH CONSTITUTE BOTH THE STIPES (OR VERTICAL MEMBER) AND PATIBULUM (OR HORIZONTAL MEMBER). HAND-PAINTED IN TURQUOISE COLORED PAINT AND CURSIVE SCRIPT UPON THE PATIBULUM AT THE OBVERSE & REVERSE OBJECT SURFACES IS THE NAME, "LARRY DORING", WHILE SP4 DORING'S BIRTH/CASUALTY DATES, "3/28/46" AND, "7/11/67", RESPECTIVELY, ARE SIMILARLY EXECUTED IN TURQUOISE PAINT AND ARABIC NUMERALS AT THE LOWER END OF THE STIPES AT BOTH THE OBVERSE AND REVERSE OBJECT SURFACES.
