ITEM SUMMARY

One (1) pair Frye brand leather cowboy boots, size 10. A non-military issue, unofficial, metal and enamel U.S. Army Military Assistance Command Vietnam- Command & Control Central (MACV-SOG CCC) distinctive unit insignia pin is affixed to the outstep pullstrap of the right boot. The unofficial MACV-SOG CCC insignia is comprised of a gold colored starburst with a brown and gold skull wearing a green beret at the center, all over a scroll bearing the phrase, "CCC". Command and Control Central (CCC) was formed by MACV-SOG in late 1967 as an expansion of its Kontum forward operations base (FOB), with the responsibility for classified, unconventional warfare operations throughout the tri-border regions of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. CCC folded in March 1971 when MACV-SOG's Task Force 1 Advisory Element was established at Da Nang. The artifact was left at The Wall by an anonymous donor in November 1992. ASSEMBLAGE COMPRISED OF: COMPONENTS (A & B) ONE (1) PAIR (RIGHT (COMPONENT (A) AND LEFT (COMPONENT (B)) FRYE BRAND GRAY LEATHER COWBOY BOOTS, SIZE 10. THE BOOTS CONSIST OF GRAY LEATHER UPPERS AND BOTTOMS, STITCHED AND NAILED HARD LEATHER SOLES, NON-TRIP BEVELED, REINFORCED HEELS, STYLIZED, STITCHED TOE MEDALLIONS, AND A STITCHED PULL STRAP AT BOTH THE INSTEP AND OUTSTEP OF EACH BOOT ALONG THE NECK. COMPONENTS (A & B) ARE CONNECTED AT THEIR RESPECTIVE INSTEP PULL STRAPS VIA A LENGTH OF RAWHIDE LEATHER THONG TIED IN A KNOT. A NON-MILITARY ISSUE, UNOFFICIAL, METAL AND ENAMEL U.S. ARMY MILITARY ASSISTANCE COMMAND VIETNAM- COMMAND & CONTROL CENTRAL (MACV-SOG CCC) DISTINCTIVE UNIT INSIGNIA PIN IS AFFIXED TO THE OUTSTEP PULLSTRAP OF COMPONENT (A) VIA A SINGLE, POLY-PLASTIC CLUTCHBACK AT THE REVERSE OBJECT SURFACE. THE INSIGNIA IS COMPRISED OF A GOLD COLORED ENAMEL STARBURST WITH A THIN, BRASS METAL BORDER AND A SKULL AT THE CENTER EXECUTED IN BRASS COLORED METAL AND BROWN ENAMEL AND WEARING A GREEN ENAMELED BERET, SUPERIMPOSED OVER A SUNBURST IN BROWN ENAMEL TRIMMED IN BRASS. BELOW THE SKULL AND SUNBURST A BROWN ENAMEL SCROLL TRIMMED IN BRASS BEARS BRASS, BLOCK LETTERING SPELLING THE PHRASE, "CCC" AT THE CENTER. COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTRAL (CCC) WAS FORMED BY MACV-SOG IN LATE 1967 AS AN EXPANSION OF ITS KONTUM FORWARD OPERATIONS BASE (FOB), WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR CLASSIFIED, UNCONVENTIONAL WARFARE OPERATIONS THROUGHOUT THE TRI-BORDER REGIONS OF LAOS, CAMBODIA, AND VIETNAM.
