Just read about you!

I just read about your mother Josephine Pasternak and her quest to complete her education after you were killed in the war. Such an interesting, empowering story. May you both rest in peace.

The Fifty-Two Year Search

Our company (3rd 506th Alpha co. 1st Plt.) was in the field on a search and destroy mission. I was in the rear at Co. Headquarters receiving treatment and recovering from a gun shot to my left upper leg, after Juan Garcia was killed. 1st Lt Tony Clough was our platoon leader at the time. I crawled back and told Lt. Clough the situation at the time Juan Garcia was killed.

While in our headquarter company office, someone came into the office and stated that one of our Lts. had been killed. Shortly after, they told us it was Lt. Clough. I was very shaken and I just could not believe the news, but it was true. At that time it was the second saddest day of my life. The day Juan Garcia was killed was the last time I saw Lt. Tony Clough.

Since those tragic days I have searched for Lt. Clough. I have not been be able to find him until today 11/11/2021. I put his name into "The Vietnam Wall of Faces," and his picture popped up.

For approximately fifty-two years I have had Lt. Clough on my mind, remembering him often. He was a good leader, he was respected, and yes I can say loved by his men.

I am so sorry that I was not there the day he was ambushed. I would have done everything I could to have saved his life.

My mother is responsible for my faith. I thank God for it. I truly believe that 1st Lt. Tony Clough is up high flying with the angles today. He is etched in my memory for all time.
