I remember the day when his mom got the news
I was still in high school and worked part time washing dishes at mother goldsmith restaurant. The day (I think her name was Gloria) received word that her son was gone was a sad day for all of us. I remember she came into the kitchen and stood next to me and was crying with her shaking hand over her mouth. I asked her what was wrong and she could not answer me. Another waitress came in behind her and told me that Jimmy had died in Vietnam. She was never the same after that day. I graduated high school and joined the Navy. On occasion when I would hear of the death statistics, I would think of Jimmy and his mom. I do remember I did like her alot. She was always kind to me and appreciated the things I did for her around the kitchen.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear A1C James Stanley Closson, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

I'll Never Forget James Closson or that Day on China Beach
I was Flight Chief for Cougar Flight, the unit that James Closson was assigned to. I've never forgotten that day, or James Closson. He was a fine young man who I was proud to have in my unit. I have a "memorial" to James hanging on the wall in my den.
