Bob's Relief in USS Goldsborough
I relieved Bob as ASW and Nuclear Weapons Officer in USS Goldsborough (DDG 20). Didn't get to know him really well, but his division always spoke highly of him and respected him. His tour of duty was marked by an accidental firing of a torpedo at the snack bar on the BRAVO pier at Pearl Harbor...no one was hurt. I'm sure Bob had nothing to do with it [oddly, during my tour, we accidently fired a "live" one in the Gulf of Tonkin -- that was a mechanical failure]. Bob would not have liked to serve under the next Goldsborough skipper for sure! Rest in eternal peace, Bob. I'll be seeing ya, shipmate!
