Final Mission of MAJ James W. Clement

On March 11, 1970, a U.S. Air Force Cessna O-2A Skymaster (#68-6884) from the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron, 504th Tactical Air Support Group, 7th Air Force, reportedly received groundfire during a mission over Quang Nam Province, RVN, and crashed into Monkey Mountain. The pilot, 1LT Paul F. Klug, and his observer, MAJ James W. Clement, a liaison officer to Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), were killed in the crash. Clement was carried as Missing in Action until April 21, 1970, when his status was changed to killed in action. Klug was also declared dead the same date. The remains of both airmen were recovered.
