Your Brother Corpsman

Mike,

It's hard to find the right words to say after 34 years, but I remember you almost on a daily basis since you died. You were a brave man and you died being a hero. We knew each other for only a short while but you will always be my brother.

From your "cousin," Mary

Mike, this remembrance is from Mary Selin, your mom's Wisconsin cousin. Because you and I were so close in age, I still consider you my cousin.

It's probably at least forty years since we last saw each other. Our family's trips to visit yours in Dubuque were a summer tradition. Even though I was such an awkward and insecure kid then, I still treasure the memories of those times at your home. Thank you for sharing that part of your life with me.

I'd forgotten that you died on my 19th birthday. From now on, I'll remember. We're still and always will be "family."

Mary
