In Vietnam One Week
County Soldier Is Killed When Copter Goes Down
Warrant Officer William K. Clawson, 24, former Linden resident, died in a helicopter accident in Vietnam on December 14, (1967) just a week after he arrived in that country.
His parents were informed that the craft on which he was serving during a combat assault mission caught fire and crashed. He had been flying out of the "Bearcat" area, north of Saigon.
W.O. Clawson who was graduated from Linden (Indiana) High School in 1961, received his silver wings as a warrant officer on October 24 upon his graduation from the Army Aviation School at Ft. Rucker, Alabama.
Following his graduation from high school, Clawson attended Purdue University for two and a half years. He enlisted in the US Army three and a half years ago.
Born September 30, 1943, he was the son of William H. and Mary Lou (Kitsmiller) Clawson. He was married September 29, 1967 to Carolyn Sue Wileman of Ozark, Alabama. (this is less than two months before his death)
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two sisters and a brother.

Burial was with full military honors in the Linden Cemetery, Linden, Indiana.
