Silver Star Medal Award

Sergeant Francis T Clarkin was awarded the Silver Star Medal for his exemplary courage under fire. He served as a Construction Engineering Supervisor and was assigned to B Co, 87th Engineering Bn, 35th Engineering Group, 18th Engineering Brigade.

Peace with Honor

Sgt. Francis Thomas Clarkin, Vietnam Veteran, Korean War Veteran, WW II Veteran, native of Brooklyn, New York. He enlisted in Medford, New York.

Sgt. Francis Thomas Clarkin was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, Sgt. Clarkin served our country until March 9th in South Vietnam. He was 41 years old and was married. It was reported that he died from drowning. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 5th, 1924. His body was recovered. Sgt. Clarkin is on panel 05E, line 130 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for more than 18 years.

Sgt. Francis Thomas Clarkin served as a Construction Engineering Supervisor with B Company, 87th Engineer Battalion, 35th Engineer Group, 18th Engineer Brigade, USARV.

He was awarded The Army Commendation Medal, American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, WW II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 2 Loops, Sharpshooter Badge with Carbine Bar and Rifle Bar, Vietnam Service Medal,Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal High (1960)Device, 1 Overseas Service Bar, Korea Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars. He also was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star.

Son of John Joseph Clarkin and Mary Clarkin, brother of Mary McHugh , Margaret Colton , John F.Clarkin , Kathleen Clarkin , Edward Denson and Eugene Denson.

Francis, you were one of the brave that answered the call. You honored us by your service and sacrifice. We now honor you each time we stand and sing the words “THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE”. Rest in Peace and Honor Francis.
