"We made good music together"
Walter was lead singer of our band, the Motifs, a key NJ band of the 1960s. I was the drummer. We played together, but moreover had a connection of the heart on things of life far past the excitement of our music.
I yet so well feel the pain of reading the letter in the mailbox, late 1968, from Walter's Company Commander, I think it was, indicating his loss. In the letter was the last letter I'd written to Walter, unopened...
The older we get the more we hold dear those of old who so profoundly affected our youth.
May you be at rest, brave soldier.
Johnny

Remembering An American Hero
Dear SSGT Walter Alan Cichon, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
