Wore Capt. Chavez's bracelet in Jr. High...

When I went to the travelling Wall in Crawfordsville, Arkansas, I didn't think it would hit me as hard as it did... In fact, I couldn't think of getting a "rubbing" to clutter up my apartment with "one more thing"... I was also one of those who were allergic to the metal and ended up breaking mine by how many times I took it off and put it on... (and it is now lost to time) I have always remembered Capt Gary A Chavez and wondered about him... Suffice to say, I had to get a rubbing and decided to frame it and make it permanent part of my home... If things had been different, you never know...

Today is my birthday and I am here again to remind you and the rest of your comrades, that on a day like today 51 years ago they fell in the Vietnam War. I have tried to write about you and your comrades, but it is very difficult to find information. I know that many people still remember you, I am one of them.

Captain Gary A. Chavez was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Award for heroism and extraordinary achievement while engaged in aerial flight. He served as a Pilot and was assigned to the 14TH TAC RECON SQDN, 432ND TAC RECON WING, 7TH AF.
