Matthew Amaral Dies In Vietnam. That was the headline

He was born in Beverly, Massachusetts on November 29, 1946, the son of Matthew P. and Janet (Perry) Amaral, Jr.

He graduated from Gloucester High School in 1965. He played drums for a group called Bob and The Terriers and played shortstop in Little League and Babe Ruth Leagues.

At the time of his death, he was engaged to be married to Yvette Roderick of Eatontown, New Jersey.

He had been in Viet Nam about six months and was a crew chief on a helicopter, part of the 240th AHC. Matthew died 15 days after his 21st Birthday.

He is buried in Wesleyan Cemetery, Gloucester, Mass.

God rest your soul, Matthew.

Matt, Butch and Me

Matt, I still remember like yesterday when you came to my house in Salem, MA with Butch Martin and we watch the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Little did I know that I would never see you again. I watched my brother go to Vietnam, he came home. Now, my son is enlisting in the Army and I pray that he will come home.

I will always remember that great smile. Some people come quickly into our lives and we are never the same! You, Matt are one.

Until we see each other again.

Crew Chief Matt Amaral

I only knew Matt for a little while before he was killed. He was a funny guy, with a great smile; he probably had girls falling all over him back home.
He served with the 240th AHC and died in a chopper crash.

God bless his soul.
