A fine Marine and fearless

Taken from Command Chronology for period 1 July - 31 July 1968
On 5 July a unit of Company "K" while on a recon mission was taken under fire by an estimated 50-70 NVA fighting from well dug in positions and supported by 60mm mortars. The enemy initiated the contact with a command detonated mine, The Company “K" unit received 60rum mortar and small. arms fire which resulted in casualties to the point squad. The other unit s of Company "K" were deployed and fixed wing air and gunships were requested. Company “K” maneuvered and extracted casualties under the cover of air strikes, gunships, and artillery. Contact was broken at 1400H. NVA Casualties were 15 KIA’s confirmed', Company "K” suffered 2 KIA’s and 8 WIA’s med evac.

Rick was in my squad that day. Remember him and the other Marine's well. A sad day.
