My Uncle John
I only know John from the stories I've been told since I was a kid. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to meet him. His brother, David Catton, was my dad. I know that my dad loved him more than anything. I just want to thank everyone that has come here to remember my uncle. It means a lot to me and my family and most importantly to my dad. Thank you.

Ground Casualty
SP4 John L. Catton and SP4 Joshua Hickman were mechanics serving with the 704th Maintenance Battalion, 4th Infantry Division. On June 2, 1967, Hickman was driving a military vehicle and Catton was his passenger. While traveling on a road in Vietnam, the vehicle overturned in a curve. Both soldiers were fatally injured in the incident. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Remembering a friend
This is a story no one has ever heard. I was a person who run convoys all the time. John came and ask if he could ride shot gun for me. I told him he had to get permission. So he did. The morning we was to leave with me they put him in a deuce and a half. And I went to one of the forward areas alone. I was gone 2 days and when I returned I was told that John had been killed. I have always felt if he had been with me it wouldn't have happened. I have. Thought about that day a lot over the years.
