My High School buddy

Gerry,
It's Memorial Day and it has been almost 52 years since you got shot down, I was at your funeral while I was home on leave, your Mom begged me to desert and go to Canada but I stayed in the Navy. I'm an old man now, almost 75 and I'll be seeing you soon. Your house is gone, they named a street after your family, my old house is gone too. The woods at your place where we used walk around and try to figure out what was going on, they are gone too and they changed the name of our High School. Knowing you, you probably would not like what has become of our country, at least you did not have to see it rot away like I did. It will all be over soon, the sound and the fury, maybe we will come back some day, you and me, and try to figure out what happened like we used to do. Tim

Remembering An American Hero

Dear WO Gerald Lewis Caton, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
