Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Kenneth Wayne Cassel, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Angel Day

On this your angel day I wanted to express my gratitude to you for your service to our country and for the greatest sacrifice any man can make – your precious life.

Many have said that the Vietnam War was a pointless war and that the loss of your life was in useless, but I do not feel that this is true. Your service and sacrifice have not been in vain, but has been a source of healing and hope. This is signified in all the messages left by the youth of our nation on this sacred site. I read their comments and know that you are not forgotten by them and that you and your brothers-in-arms will be an influence for good for generations to come.

I will always remember you and the others on The Wall. I will do my utmost best to never to forget you and to do all that I can do to keep your memory alive. Even if it is just to leave a message here on your remembrance page on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial site. This is my promise to you and the others.

Rest well now and know that you are always remembered by this humble American Girl.

Forever Yours

Kenneth, True love never dies & my love for you is stronger than ever! You are always in my heart.I have come full circle with a wonderful son, daughter, & grandson but once again I am faced with war & the possibility of my son ,an Army Captain, leaving to fight in a foreign land.He is so much like you it fills my heart with pride. The irony of this is that someone who has no biological connection to you could have so many of the same values as you.Although you have gone to be with God & left this troubled world, you remain in our hearts. My son wears a memory bracelet that honors the wonderful Marine that he never met, but knows through his mom.His mom wears one to honor the 21 year old Marine that sacrificed all.Being an 18 yr old widow is difficult & being a 54 yr old mother of an enlisted man is also difficult.Thank you for the time we had & the sacrifices you made for a country that is still in turmoil! Rest in peace & know that I am Forever Yours ! I love you ! Your wife, Martha
