Remembering An American Hero

Dear SSGT Francisco Teroni Carvajal, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

The Green Beret

Frank Carvajal was a former Special Forces soldier who was transferred to C company 2nd 502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. He was shy, quiet, brave and he was my friend. He was killed on May 5, 1970 during an assualt on a bunker complex on Hill 714, Thua Thien Province. He survived his wounds long enough to be medically evacuated to the 85th Evac Hospital where he died.. I think of him often and I believe he is now in that special place reserved only for heroes. This is the only photo I have of him.
