Corp School friend.
I had the privilege of going through Great Lakes Corps School with Leslie. He was always upbeat. Great to talk to, always including others in conversations. Think of him often. Sorry he died so young.

Visit
My husband, kids, and I visited Mr. Carter's place on the wall in Washington DC this week at the request of my father, Roger Pompeo. Mr. Carter and my father were friends, and served together in Vietnam. It was an honor to show my kids his name on the wall, and they made a rubbing of his name to bring home with us. It made a big impression on them to know that my father never forgot his long lost friend even after all these years.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear HM1 Leslie Louis Carter, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
