do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush

John Carter My Marine Buddy
John and I met in ITR after boot camp. Because we were both from Iowa we bonded. We remained together through all training, even when they asked for Sniper volunteers, at Camp Horno we were together and signed up immediately
After Sniper School John went home to get married
I went to the 7th Scout Snipers and he to the 1st Snipers
Every one he was in Sniper School with went to the 7th, Carlos Hathcocks Plt. I think of him all the time outstanding friend and Marine.

Always in our hearts
I never met John, and was not born until 15 years after his death. My father, Francis "Ozzie" Koski, was in his sniper platoon. I just found this website. As my dad's age increases, so does his survivor's guilt. John went on a mission that day instead of my father. I am hoping to help my dad find peace by communicating or possibly meeting John Carter's family and other members of his sniper platoon that knew him. We are located in Houghton, MI. Please feel free to reach out to me. It would mean the world to my father, my mother and myself.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you John Carter for your ultimate sacrifice. Your memory lives in our hearts always.

THANK YOU
Dear LCPL John Carter,
Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Today is actually Columbus Day, and we remember those of you who served. It is important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

carter was about the only married member of our sniper platoon. i remember he had a wife and child back home. he used to play simon and garfunkle all the time. he especially liked their song 'at the zoo' -playing it over and over. he was one of several guys killed when a mine exploded. they said he was back in the formation and died from a single piece of shrappnel to the heart.even after all these years i still think of him and think what a shame, and wonder how his wife and child made out
