We Will Remember

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Thank You

Dear Master Sgt Archie Carnell,
I hope your photo is put here because this is a wall of faces and yours is missing. Thank you for your service as a Dial/Manual Central Office Repairer. It is important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Ground Casualty

MSGT Archie D. Carnell was a telephone exchange equipment maintenance man assigned to the 54th Ordnance Company, 3rd Ordnance Battalion, 53rd General Support Group, Army Support Command Saigon, 1st Logistic Command. On May 5, 1971, in what was considered a racially motivated homicide, Melvin Smith, a self-proclaimed Black Muslim, shot MSGT Carnell nine times, killing him instantly. Smith then attempted suicide but failed, and was court-martialed after recovering from his self-inflicted injuries. [Taken from the book Fragging by George Lepre]
