My Cajun Buddy

Adrian and I met at MCRD San Diego, California on 18 September 1968 where we were starting our 1st full day as Marine Recruits in the 1st squad of Platoon 1088. He was a chubby guy with a great smile. He worked hard and lost a lot of weight. He became my squad leader and was promoted to PFC when we graduated. We went on to Camp Pendleton for infantry training. While there we went on liberty together. He was always telling me how great Madi Gra was. He promised me he'd treat me to Madi Gra after we came back from the Nam if we made it. He did make it on our 10 days leave before staging. I think of you often buddy, God Bless You.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Adrian David Carbajal, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
