Ground Casualty
LCPL Eugene C. Campbell was a rifleman serving with K Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines. LCPL Campbell was a combat veteran who participated in Operations Prairie I, II, and III, and the savage hill battles near Khe Sanh in April-May 1967. On August 25, 1967, Campbell was transferred to the hospital ship USS Repose after contracting malaria. He died two days later of cerebral malaria and acute renal failure.
