Remembering Hardy Calloway
I will always remember Hardy and the last time I saw him with his sweet wife, Dee right before he left Pensacola. He was a wonderful and kind person and I think of him often, especially when we return to Pensacola.

Final Mission of 1LT Hardy E. Calloway
On March 18, 1969, pilot 1LT Hardy E. Calloway and aircraft commander WO1 Willard S. Lund were operating a U.S. Army AH-1G helicopter (tail number 67-15580) from B Troop, 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment in the Long An Province (III Corps). While seeking enemy targets of opportunity in the Plain of Reeds, they encountered approximately 90 sampans of the Bo Bo Canal. They engaged the enemy force and called in for infantry support. After expending ordinance and fuel, they withdrew to Tan An to rearm and refuel. Returning to the battle, they attempted to engage the enemy again at which point they encountered a rotor separation, crashed, and caught fire. Both crewmen suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Remembering An American Hero
Dear 1LT Hardy Eugene Calloway, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
