Remembering Don Byrd
Don and his family lived down the road from our house. Their home was always clean and neat but they were very poor. The house was one room that was divided by temporary walls. I was young but remember the comic books that he collected. His sister, Midge, was developmentally delayed and even tho' she was older than my sister and me, she played with us. When this family lost their beloved son, I can remember the deep sorrow that covered their house. All of their hopes and dreams for their children had lived in Don and now he was gone.

missing you
We spent 9 mo together training in Ft Riley Ka, then 6 mo in nam in the same squad platoon & company 9th 2/47 till he was transfered to 2/39th. We bunked together on troop ship and Bearcat, Nam. Ce was the calmest, kindest person I met, often reading his bible quietly while we went to the beer hall. He seeded my own faith, becoming a Baptist minister, now retired. would love to chat with a fam member sometime. RIP

Remembering Elmer
Elmer was a very good friend of mine in fort Riley Kansas and Vietnam. We talked a great deal. Over the years, I have thought about him often. He was one of the nicest people that I ever met. It was an honor to have him as a friend. I would like to say to all the people that loved him that I feel your pain, for the loss of such a good and honest man.
