DAVID BURNEY IS COUNTY'S SEVENTH VIETNAM CASUALTY
Word of the death of the second Putnam County man to lose his life in Vietnam in a week's time was received here this morning by the family of the dead soldier.
Pfc. David Burney, 19, was reported killed in action in the war-torn southeast Asian country Monday, exactly a week after S-Sgt. James Howard Tomlinson died of gunshot wounds inflicted by a hostile force.
Pfc. Burney, the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Burney, 120 N. 12th St,. became Putnam County's seventh casualty in the war in Vietnam. A representative of the Defense Department brought word of the young soldier's death. The telegram which follows the personal visit had not arrived as of noon today.
The soldier, who enlisted Feb. 12, had been in Vietnam since Aug. 14, where he was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Division. His parents said they had received a letter from him just today. Pfc. Burney was a native Palatkan.
Military funeral rites were held this afternoon for Sgt. Tomlinson. Other Putnam County servicemen who have been killed in Vietnam are Lt. William D.H. Ragin, killed in August, 1964; Lt. Henry A. Deutsch, killed May, 1965; Pfc. Kenneth Horne, killed February, 1966; Pfc. William Young, killed December, 1966; and Sp-4 Walter Eugene Ellis, killed March, 1967.

Rest In Peace
You were taken before I had the chance to know you, but I grew up hearing the stories of what an amazing cousin I had whom gave his life serving our country and fighting for our freedom and the freedoms of others. Your Mother, my favorite Aunt was so proud of you, as were your siblings and all of your cousins. Rest in Peace cuz and I will see you in Heaven when God sees fit to bring me home! We all love you very much!
