I'm the One Called

Rest in Peace "Doc"

"I'm the One Called "Doc…"

I shall not walk in your footsteps,
but I will walk by your side.
I shall not walk in your image,
I've earned my own title of pride.
We've answered the call together,
on sea and foreign land.
When the cry for help was given,
I've been there right at hand.
Whether I am on the ocean
or in the jungle wearing greens,
Giving aid to my fellow man,
be it Sailors or Marines.
So the next time you see a corpsman
and you think of calling him "squid",
Think of the job he's doing
as those before him did.
And if you ever have to go out there
and your life is on the block,
Look at the one right next to you…
I'm the one called "Doc".

Special Friend

The Vietnam Wall Experience was traveling through Winston-Salem, North Carolina this weekend and I paid my respects to all the men and women who gave their lives to this great country of ours. I've never been to Washington to see the real thing, so I've had to catch The Wall whenever it came through Winston-Salem. I can't believe I'm writing this after all these years. You meant the world to me and I wish I had acted on those feelings back in 1967-68. Your dad is now with you in Heaven and I know he is happy to finally get to see you again. Your pledge and commitment to our country will never be forgotten. You remain in my heart continuously and I HONOR AND APPRECIATE YOU! With Love!
