Remembering An American Hero
Dear CPL Joseph Edward Bugar Jr, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

The Coatesville Record - August 25, 1969
Joseph Bugar, Former Local
Golf Star, Dies in VN Action
Joseph E. Bugar Jr., 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Bugar of W. Lincoln Hwy., Coatesville RD2, was killed while on an operation in Vietnam August 20.
Pfc. Bugar entered the Army in October 1968 and received his basic training at Fort Bragg, S.C. He received training for combat at Fort Polk, La.
He was sent to Vietnam in April and was wounded on May 4 while on patrol. He spent two months in Japan in the hospital before returning to Vietnam July 7.
Mr. and Mrs. Bugar were notified of their son's death Friday.
He was a 1966 graduate of Scott Senior High School and attended West Chester State College. He was employed by Luken's Steel Company.
Starting in ninth grade, Pfc. Bugar was a member of the varsity golf team at Scott. In his senior year he won the Individual Chestmont Championship, was golf caaptain and number one man.
He also worked in the clubhouse at the Coatesville Country Club.
"Of all the boys I've ever coached," said golf coach Michael Hemlock, "not only as a golfer but also as a person, he was an outstanding individual."
Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Gerald E. Bugar, at home, and three sisters, Janet, wife of Donald Kilgore of Pomeroy, Judith, wife of Robert Rice of West Chester, and Jacqueline Bugar, at home.
Residents of Valley Township have been asked to fly their flags in memory of Pfc. Bugar.

Joseph, Although we never met, I just want you to know you are not forgotten. You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for what you believed in. Sleep well my friend, and thank you for protecting the freedoms we enjoy today.
