Obituary for Spec. 4th Class Donald D. Bruce
According to the Obituary in the Register Herald of Eaton, Oh, it sates:
Area Soldier Killed April 18 In Vietnam
An area soldier, Specialist 4th class Donald D. Bruce, 22, has been reported killed in action in Vietnam. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Bruce, West Alexandria. The family resides in Montgomery County on the Preble County Line Road.
An Army spokesman said that Bruce, a helicopter crew chief was killed when enemy small arma fire downed his craft April 18. He was first reported as missing in action. His death was confirmed Sunday.
Specialist Bruce was unmarried. Survivors other than his parents include a brother, Dwaine, 24, a student at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky., a brother, Montie, 9, and sister, Vicki, 15, both at home, and his grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Christman who resides with the Bruce family.
Bruce was a 1963 graduate of Nettie Lee Roth High School on Dayton. He worked at the Inland Manufacturing Company for 1 1/2 years before entering the service. After basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky., he was stationed in Texas at Ft. Hood, and in Alabama. He had been in Vietnam six months.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Holp Funeral Home, New Lebanon, pending Army arrangements.
Additional information the following week:
Services for Army Specialist 4th class Ronald D. Bruce, killed in action in Vietnam on April 18, were held Saturday at 1:00p.m., at the First Baptist Church in New Lebanon.
Rev. David D. Haney officiated, with burial in Sinking Springs, Oh cemetery.
